Korean accused of large-scale fraud nabbed in QC

Authorities have arrested an undocumented Korean wanted in his home country for alleged large-scale fraud worth $100 million in a construction investment scam.

According to a spot report, agents of the Fugitive Search Unit of the Bureau of Immigration nabbed 51-year-old Chun Taejoon in law enforcement operations held along Kalayaan Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City on Tuesday afternoon.

He was apprehended for being an undocumented alien and for being a fugitive from the law, “posing risk to public safety and security,” accused of defrauding 10,000 victims.

Information from then Consul and Police Attache Hong Dukki of the Korean Embassy in July 12, 2013 reportedly indicates an arrest warrant from a Seoul court has been out for the suspect since October 13, 2005.

The suspect's passport expired on June 3, 2009, and has never been renewed since.

The Korean was to be brought to the Bureau of Immigration Warden Facility for commitment. — Nicole-Anne C. Lagrimas/RSJ, GMA News
