Lawyer survives ambush in Quezon City, kills 1 attacker


A lawyer not only survived an ambush in Quezon City at past midnight Tuesday, he also killed one of his attackers and injured another.

An Unang Balita report said lawyer Argel Joseph Cabatbat was in his car when three men riding two motorcycles fired at him at the corner of East Avenue and EDSA.

The report said Cabatbat chased his attackers and ran them over.

Cabatbat was able to kill one of the attackers, from whom he recovered a police ID of a Police Officer 1 Mark Ayeras.

A Super Radyo dzBB report said that according to Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar, the policeman was assigned at the National Capital Region Police Office's (NCRPO) anti-illegal drugs unit.

The radio report said the Quezon City police is working to confirm the identity of the slain attacker.

The report added that according to Eleazar, the policeman served at the QCPD before being transferred to the NCRPO.

The injured attacker was identified by the QCPD as John Paul Cerillo, a former overseas Filipino worker.

The third individual was able to escape.

Police seized a 9mm pistol and .45 pistol from the suspects.
