Canadian arrested at NAIA for marijuana possession

A Canadian was arrested on Thursday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 for possession of marijuana hidden in a bottle of nutmeg, according to a report by Jay Sabale on Unang Balita.

Gary Gentles was caught with the marijuana during a redundancy check performed during flights to Australia or the US after he initially refused to present the bottle by moving it from his underwear to his pocket.

The tourist was turned over to the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) when security found what they believe was dried marijuana inside the bottle.

Gentles argued he used the marijuana to treat his Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) when NAIA-IADITG confirmed the substance as the illegal drug, despite failing to provide prescription for the treatment.

He will undergo inquest proceedings where he may face charges related to transport and possession of illegal drugs. —Rie Takumi/KG, GMA News
