Authorities impound kuliglig vehicles in Manila without permit

Authorities from the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau on Wednesday zeroed in on kuliglig vehicles in Binondo, Manila, and impounded those without permit, according to a report on Unang Balita on Thursday by Vonne Aquino.

Seven of 50 kuliglig vehicles checked were found to be without permit.

Ericson Amaro, a kuliglig owner, said it is difficult to get a permit.

"Pagpunta namin sa kabila sa pagkukuhanan namin, hindi naman kami binibigyan ng permit kasi taga-ibang lugar daw kami. Pero maraming nakapasok na ibang lugar diyan," he said.

Those vehicles found to be included in a master list of those with permits were allowed to continue plying the roads.

Anthony Pido, a kuliglig owner, said they pay P300 weekly to one of their co-members who got permits.

The MTPB said owners whose kuliglig units have been impounded need to go to the Manila City Hall to get a permit before the vehicles will be returned to them.
