Militant group seeks justice for Manila Pavilion fire victims

A group of activists on Thursday demanded justice for the victims of the Manila Pavilion Hotel and Casino fire during a memorial program held in front of the gutted hotel.

“Kami ay nagngingitngit sa galit at humihingi ng hustiya,” said Ed Cubelo, chairman of the Kilusang Mayo Uno-Metro Manila.

The group offered flowers in honor  of the 6 employees of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation who perished in the blaze, which lasted for over 24 hours.

Cubelo said “nalulungkot kami kasi ang mga biktima ay mga manggagawa tulad namin.”

The hotel remains cordoned off while arson investigators are still sifting through piles of debris in an effort to establish the cause of the fire.

In an earlier interview, Superintendent Jonas Silvano, Manila’s district fire marshal, could not give a particular time frame for the probe.

“Scientific naman po ang ating investigation. It’s a process of elimination. So, once na zero in natin, that would conclude the investigation,” said Silvano. — Jun Veneracion/RSJ, GMA News
