Trash traps placed in San Juan River to help clean up waterways

Authorities began placing trash traps in parts of San Juan River to prevent garbage from flowing into the Pasig River, according to a report on Balitanghali on Thursday by Oscar Oida.

The Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission spearheaded the installation of inter-city trash traps on Thursday.

The San Juan River is reportedly the most polluted major waterway flowing into the Pasig River.

The trash traps are placed in the boundaries of Quezon City, San Juan, Mandaluyong, and Manila.

River warriors will then collect the garbage in the trash traps.

The PRRC said that with the trash traps, it would be easy to determine which city yields the most amount of garbage.

It added that it will file charges against local government units, companies, or individuals found polluting the waterways. —KG, GMA News
