Authorities seize 300 kilos of mishandled meat in Manila
Authorities seized some 300 kilos of mishandled meat during an inspection on Saturday morning in Manila.
Quoting Alberto Burdeos, OIC of the Veterinary Inspection Board of the city of Manila, a report on Balitanghali said that the VIB inspection squad seized almost 300 kilos of mishandled meat, including several kilos of lechon.
According to the VIB, mishandled meat can be hazardous to humans as it can cause food poisoning.
Vendors caught selling mishandled meat (botcha) may be fined from P100,000 to P1,000,000 and could face imprisonment of six months to 12 years under the Food Safety Act at Meat Inspection Code.
The VIB team confiscated the meat because of the irregularities found in the documents authorizing its transport, even though the owner has a permit. —LBG, GMA News
