PHL dolphin advocates protest vs. slaughter of dolphins in Taiji, Japan

Around 200 members of the Earth Island Institute staged a protest action in front of the Japanese Embassy in Manila on Sunday to call attention to the slaughter of dolphins in Taiji, Japan.

The protesters held placards bearing messages such as "End the slaughter in Taiji!", "Stop killing dolphins!" and "Set me free, don't watch dolphin shows", according to a report on Super Radyo dzBB by Mao dela Cruz.

Trixie Concepcion, regional director of Earth Island Institute, said thousands of dolphins have been caught and slaughtered in Taiji for their meat.

The protesters also urged marine parks such as Ocean Adventure and Marine Life Park in Sentosa, Singapore to set dolphins free.

Some 600 dolphins were killed in 2017-2018, the group said. —KG, GMA News
