TRILLANES CASE

Police contingent arrives in Makati to ensure public order, safety

A team of personnel plucked from the Philippine National Police's Civil Disturbance Management Units in Metro Manila arrived early Friday morning in Makati  in connection with the expected court ruling on the plea to order the arrest of Senator Antonio Trillanes for coup d'état.

GMA News' Jonathan Andal told Super Radyo dzBB's "Dobol B sa News TV" that the police contingent has been deployed to ensure public safety and order in the event protest actions erupt following any possible ruling on Trillanes' case.

Andal said that members of the police team were not armed, but were ordered to be ready with their skills in addressing  civil disturbance.

The Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 148—hearing the Justice department's plea for the arrest and hold-departure order on Trillanes—is expected to come out with a ruling anytime this day.

Earlier this week, the Makati RTC Branch 150 ordered the arrest of Trillanes for rebellion case, but Trillanes was able to post bail of P200,000.

He returned to the Senate where he has been holed up for several weeks since President Rodrigo Duterte nullified the amnesty given to him for his involvement in the 2003 Oakwood mutiny and the 2007 Manila Peninsula siege.

Trillanes might be arrested anytime if RTC 148 would issue an order for his arrest for coup d'état, which is a non-bailable case.

Authorities expect protest actions should the court order the arrest of Senator Trillanes. —LBG, GMA News
