Comelec: Campaign posters banned at LRT, other gov’t transport facilities

The Commission on Elections will coordinate with the Department of Transportation as regards the removal of campaign advertisements posted at the facilities of the Light Rail Transit.

Asked about the posters senatorial candidate Bong Go at the LRT, Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said such campaign materials were banned from government-run infrastructure.

“Bawal maglagay ng advertisement sa anumang government-run means of transportation. We will be coordination with them [in DOTr] to address this. Puwede natin ipatigil ‘yan,” Jimenez said.

“Sinabi ni Presidente na bawal gamitin ang government resources. We will see how far the people concerned are giving life to this. We never said it is okay and it is prohibited by law,” he added.

Go was a former secretary and had been President Rodrigo Duterte's longtime aide since he was mayor of Davao City.

Duterte before the campaign period prohibited members of the bureaucracy, including the Cabinet secretaries, against supporting any candidate in the coming elections.

“I have not allowed them to do some campaigning for or against anybody. 'Yan ang maibigay ko sa inyo," the President said on February 8 or four days before the campaign period for those running for national post started last February 12. —NB, GMA News
