QC calls on Angel Locsin community pantry patrons to undergo free COVID-19 testing

The Quezon City Government on Saturday urged residents who visited actress Angel Locsin’s community pantry to avail of the city’s free coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) swab testing service.

In a statement, Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CESU) chief Dr. Rolando Cruz said residents with COVID-19 symptoms may book an appointment online via http://bit.ly/QCfreetest.

Affected residents may also arrange testing through the phone numbers: 8703-2759, 8703-4398, 0916-122-8628, 0908-639-8086, 0931-095-7737.

“Hindi natin puwedeng isantabi ang posibilidad na nagkahawahan dahil sa dami ng dumalo. Mabuti nang makasiguro na hindi natin mahawahan ang ating pamilya at mga kasama sa komunidad,” Cruz said.

(We can't ignore the possibility that there was COVID-19 transmission because there were many people who attended. It's better to be sure that we don't infect our families and other people in the community.)

The local government also appealed to Locsin and her team to coordinate with local officials if know of individuals who need to get tested.

“We hope to be furnished with any pertinent information that could aid us in immediately identifying, testing, and isolating suspected COVID-19 cases,” Cruz said.

Locsin opened a community pantry in Barangay Holy Spirit in Quezon City as part of her birthday celebration.

A senior citizen who queued at the community pantry to get free food died after passing out.

Locsin apologized for the chaos at the pantry, adding that she would close it and donate the remaining goods to similar efforts.

The Department of the Interior and the Local Government also urged community pantry organizers to coordinate with local government units and the Philippine National Police to ensure that COVID-19 protocols were followed. — DVM, GMA News
