Some local government units in the National Capital Region on Friday have started their COVID-19 inoculation of people aged 12 to 17 with comorbidities as part of the expansion of the pilot pediatric vaccination.

In San Juan City, Mayor Francis Zamora said the local government units launched the pediatric vaccination in Cardinal Santos Medical Center.

“The vaccination will be conducted in a hospital setting to observe any adverse effects upon inoculation,” Zamora said in a Facebook post.

“If none, then it is possible to conduct the vaccination of children in San Juan City's vaccination sites in the weeks to come,” he added.

Around 140 minors with comorbidities are set to be vaccinated on Friday, while around 500 registrants are scheduled for inoculation in the next five days.

“We have seen in the past months how the virus has been affecting our kids as well. It’s high time that we expand the vaccination program to them,” Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a statement.

If allowed by the DOH, Tiangco said they will add more pediatric vaccination sites in two schools.
