3 people in Valentine's Day bombing case get life


MANILA, Philippines - The Court of Appealts has sentenced to life imprisonment — without parole — three Abu Sayyaf Group members charged in the Valentine’s Day bombing in Makati City in 2005 that left four dead and 68 injured. In a 25-page decision signed by Edgardo F. Sundiam, the appellate court affirmed the guilty verdict as prescribed by the Makati Regional Trial Court. The death penalty was commuted to life imprisonment without parole. Sentenced were Gamal Baharan a.k.a. Tapay, Angelo Trinidad a.k.a. Abu Khalil and Rohmat Abdurrohim a.k.a. Jackie or Zaky. Court records showed the first two planted the bomb inside an RRCG bus at the southbound lane of Ayala Ave. on Feb. 14, 2005.
