PMA entrance exam set on August 31


BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Able-bodied Filipinos who are 17 to 22 years old are invited to take the Philippine Military Academy’s (PMA) entrance examination on August 31. The test will be offered in 30 examination centers nationwide, said Lt. Col. Joseph Villanueva., the academy’s assistant chief of staff for civil military operations. “This is yet another chance for our patriotic youth the PMA is offering for a well-rounded and free college education while receiving stipend while studying in the academy. It will usher them into a progressive career as an officer in either the Philippine Army, Philippine Navy, or Philippine Air Force and the rare privilege to serve the motherland," he said. To qualify to the stringent cadet admission requirements for PMA Class 2013, the applicant must be a natural-born Filipino citizen; of good moral character; physically fit; single and never been married. A candidate must be at least 5 ft. 4 in. tall for male and 5 ft. 2 in. for females but not more than 6 ft. 4" in. tall;; at least 17 years old but not a day older than 22 years on April 1, 2009; at least a high school graduate with a general average of at least 85%; and able to perform the minimum requirements for physical fitness test. Applicants are required to bring their form 137, NSO Birth Certificate and 2" x 2" ID picture with white background. Villanueva said walk-in applicants are also accepted. Applicants are advised to review their algebra, geometry, grammar, composition, reading comprehension, and verbal/numerical reasoning and pattern analysis lessons before taking the exam. Application forms that are free are available at the nearest Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police units around the country or accessed through http://www.pma.ph where they can apply on-line. The country’s premier military school traces its history back to Oct. 25, 1898 when General Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the young Philippine republic, and Antonio Luna established the Academia at Malolos, Bulacan. When the Philippine-American War broke out in n1899, the school was closed. The US colonial government established an Officer's School at Intramuros in Manila, which was later relocated to Baguio in 1908. Last year, the PMA had 220 graduates. - GMANews.TV
