Trader killed in QC daylight shooting incident

MANILA, Philippines - A businessman was shot dead – in full view of his children – during an early morning ambush staged by a motorcycle riding man in Quezon City on Wednesday. Quezon City police investigators said the victim – identified as Carmelo Llado, a 40-year-old trader engaged in trucking business – was attacked about 6:30 a.m. along Palanca Street corner Santol Street in Santol village, near the borders of Quezon City and Manila. Superintendent Carlito Feliciano, commander of the QCPD Galas Station, told GMANews.TV in a phone interview that the victim was on board his Mitsubishi Pajero and was supposed to drive his two children to school before the shooting incident happened. Senior Inspector Willie Quilang said that upon reaching Palanca Street, an unidentified man riding a Honda XRM motorcycle emerged and blocked the victims’ path. "Hinarang siya sa daan. Pagkatapos pinukpok pa iyong sasakyan pero ayaw tumigil ng biktima at umandar pa rin siya (The gunman blocked the victim’s path on the road. The suspect demanded the driver to stop the vehicle but the latter refused and sped away)," Quilang said. The helmeted assailant then gave chase and ended up shooting at the vehicle's windshield, hitting Llado four times in the body. Quilang said the gunman could have probably used a 38-cal. revolver because investigators failed to retrieve any spent shells at the crime scene. He said shells only get discharged from pistols, and not revolvers, after firing. A concerned village official rushed to the scene and brought the victim to the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center (UERMMC) but was pronounced dead at 7:50 a.m. Quilang said they have yet to determine the identity and motive of the assailant, but already ruled out robbery since the assailant did not cart away anything from the victims. "Ifo-follow-up namin ang nangyari. Mukhang hindi naman ito robbery dahil wala namang nawala doon sa sasakyan at sa biktima (We will follow up on the incident.
