QCSHS principal to be transferred amid blog controversy

MANILA, Philippines - After earning flak for suspending four students over a controversial blog entry, the principal of the Quezon City Science High School (QCSHS) will be transferred to another school, a television report said Tuesday. In his report aired over GMA News’ “24 Oras,” Cesar Apolinario said Dr. Zenaida Sadsad is set to be transferred to E. Rodriguez Junior High School (ERJHS) by the Quezon City Schools Division. ERJHS Faculty President Jovenal dela Cruz said he was informed of Sadsad’s transfer to their school, but added that he was opposed to it since their current officer-in-charge (OIC) has been appointed only three months ago. He added that the school faculty and students “could not achieve peace of mind” because of the frequent replacement of their school principal. “Actually, itong eskwelahan namin nakakaranas ng iba’t-ibang punongguro sa loob ng isang taon. Kami'y hindi nagkakaroon ng peace of mind [Several principal have been appointed to our school in one year, and because of this we could not achieve peace of mind],” Dela Cruz said. Mrs. Delia Hinahon, a teacher in ERJHS, echoed Dela Cruz’s statement, saying that changing their school OIC could affect the conduct of commencement exercises and graduation ceremonies in March. “Malamit na naman ang graduation, maraming activities, mapuputol ang mga ‘yon [Graduation is near and there are a lot of activities. The transfer would slow down the preparations],” Hinahon said. Like Dela Cruz and Hinahon, some students disapprove of Sadsad’s transfer due to fears that the controversial principal would violate their freedom of speech. But one teacher, Cristina Manalo, thought otherwise, the report said. The report quoted Manalo as saying that Sadsad should be given a chance to prove herself first before judging her. GMA News tried to contact Sadsad for her comment, but she was in a meeting. The Quezon city schools division meanwhile refused to elaborate on the issue, saying only that the transfer of Sadsad can still be deferred. - GMANews.TV
