New Marikina police chief sworn in

MANILA, Philippines - Senior Superintendent Romeo Magsalos on Tuesday formally assumed the post of police chief of Marikina City. Magsalos replaced outgoing Superintendent Sotero Ramos Jr. Mayor Marides Fernando and Eastern Police District Director Lino Calingasan and other police officials attended the turn over ceremony. At the event, Calingasan commended Ramos for the many awards he has brought to the Marikina police. “Marikina City police should already be in the hall of fame after bagging several awards for the past three years," he said. The local city police got the Best EPD Police Station for the years 2006, 2007 and 2008; they also bagged the Best City Police Station for 2007 and 2008, with Fernando being proud of the honors Ramos has brought to the city. “It is really time for [Superintendent] Ramos to move on and his shoes are not that big for [Superintendent] Magsalos to fill. We only wish that the peace and order situation in Marikina will continue in order to invite more investors and may the thrust of the city police be in uniform with the vision of the city," Fernando said. She also added that there were no major crimes like bank robbery during Ramos’ term, an indication that the local government administration and police’s efforts to safeguard peace and order have been successful. Ramos is now assigned at the office of Calingasan while preparing for his training at the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States. He earned the FBI training course for making the Marikina police a consistent winner of the best police station award. Magsalos, 48, is a graduate of the Philippine National Police Academy batch ’87. He is a native of Mindanao. During the turn-over rites, Fernando said that the strong alliance between the police and the local government is the reason behind the city’s success in the war against crime. - GMANews.TV
