Binay admits to having past extra-marital affair

Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino vice-presidential bet Jejomar Binay on Friday admitted to having had an extra-marital affair “a long time ago." “Nangyari po iyon. Hindi ko po itinatanggi. Pero humingi na ho ako ng patawad sa aking asawa (That happened. I am not denying it, but I already asked for forgiveness from my wife," he told reporters on Friday after a sortie in Pampanga. Binay said his wife, Dr. Elenita Binay, and the rest of their family had already forgiven him after he admitted to his mistake in the past.
“Tao rin naman ho ako. Nagkakaroon din naman ho ako ng kasalanan (I am also human. I also commit mistakes)," he said. Binay emphasized however that the affair happened “a long time ago," and is only being dug up now as a form of black propaganda. “Ito ho ay napakatagal nang nangyari. Ito po ay hindi naman kahapon o noong isang taon (This happened a long time ago, not yesterday or last year)," he said. Binay’s revelation came a day after a Pulse Asia survey showed him closing the gap between Liberal Party’s Senator Manuel Roxas II in the vice-presidential race. (See: Erap tied with Villar in new Pulse Asia survey) The same survey likewise showed Binay’s standard-bearer, former President Joseph Estrada, tied in second place with Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Manuel Villar Jr., but still trailing behind Liberal Party’s Sen. Benigno Aquino III. Binay is outgoing three-termer mayor of Makati City. His wife Elenita served in the same post from 1998 to 2001. His son and namesake, Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr., is Makati councilor and currently running for mayor under the PDP-Laban flag. Daughter Mar-Len Abigail is a reelectionist congresswoman for Makati's 2nd district.—JV, GMANews.TV
