Guia Gomez, JV big winners in San Juan polls

Former actress Guia Gomez and her son, JV Ejercito stood tall in the local elections in San Juan City. GMA News reported that early Tuesday, Gomez and Ejercito were proclaimed mayor-elect and congressman-elect, respectively, in the city which has produced a Philippine president in the person of Joseph Estrada. JV is the son of Estrada and Gomez. The same television report showed that Estrada was present during the proclamation, assisting Gomez in going up the stage and kissing her on the lips as she got down following her proclamation as mayor-elect.

Estrada, elected president in 1998 but whose term was cut short in 2001 following a military-backed civilian uprising, is seeking to reclaim the presidency. He currently ranks second behind Liberal Party standard bearer Benigno Aquino III based on partial and unofficial consolidation of data from election returns as of 12:47 a.m. Tuesday. GMA News reported that Aquino got 22,225 votes compared to Estrada's 21,341. — RSJ/LBG, GMANews.TV
