PNP: 920 arrested in SK, barangay election gun ban


At least 920 people had been arrested nationwide for violating the gun ban for the barangay (village) and Sangguniang Kabataan (youth council) elections last Oct. 25. Radio dzBB's Benjie Liwanag Jr. on Tuesday evening cited figures from the Philippine National Police that the violators included police personnel, soldiers and government employees. The PNP's National Election Monitoring and Action Center said that of the number, 867 were civilians, 18 were policemen, nine were soldiers, and 26 were government employees. Seized from them were 761 firearms, including 256 high-powered and 505 low-powered firearms; 215 bladed weapons; 60 grenades; and seven airguns. The gun ban started last September 25 and will end at midnight of November 10, Wednesday. - KBK, GMANews.TV
