Korina omitting VP Binay's name in telecasts?

Is ABS-CBN news anchor Korina Sanchez deliberately omitting the name of Vice President Jejomar Binay in her spiels during the primetime telecasts of TV Patrol? This was the question posed by the Office of the Vice President (OVP), in a letter dated March 1, to ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs head Ging Reyes and supervising producer Cheryl Favila. OVP media relations head Joselito Salgado explained that on at least three occasions, Sanchez supposedly did not mention the name of Binay in her spiels. These were on November 11, 2010 (“VP Binay umaming wala pang ebidensiya vs De Castro at Ortille"); on February 17, 2011 (“Pamilya gustong makapiling si Sally sa huling sandali"); and on February 24, 2011 (“Marcos sa Libingan ng mga Bayani".) "We wish to be clarified if it is the editorial policy of ABS-CBN news desk to omit the name of Vice President Jejomar Binay in the lead in or anchor’s spiel on stories about him," Salgado said. “While we do not want to intervene in any way in your editorial policies, we would like to be enlightened if such a policy of omission exists, and if it does, why it apparently applies only to the Vice President," he further said. If no such policy exists, Salgado explained, “we feel that your attention needs to be called to the unprofessional conduct of Ms. Sanchez, whose husband, as we all know, is former Senator Mar Roxas who lost to the Vice President in the last election." ABS-CBN Corporate Communications head Ramon Osorio, however, assured Salgado that there is no such policy of omission in the television network regarding the vice president’s name. Osorio likewise said in his letter to Salgado that the OVP's complaint against Sanchez has already been referred to the network ombudsman, which is headed by former Justice Jose Vitug, for "appropriate" review and disposition.—Kimberly Jane T.
