PNP bares traffic rerouting plans in QC for SONA


Motorists passing near the Batasan Complex in Quezon City may have to follow traffic rerouting plans on Monday, in time for President Benigno Aquino III's second State of the Nation Address. The Metro Manila police advised motorists to avoid the Batasan Complex area and take alternate routes to avoid inconvenience. For its part, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority will deploy at least 1,100 personnel along Commonwealth Avenue starting 5 a.m. Monday to guide motorists on the rerouting. "5 a.m. pa lang naroon sa area para sa traffic management. Meron din kaming civil disturbance unit malapit sa St. Peter's Church (Our traffic aides will be at their assignments 5 a.m. We will also have a civil disturbance team near St. Peter's Church)," MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino said in an interview on dwIZ radio Friday. In a news release, Metro Manila police head Chief Superintendent Alan Purisima said the southbound part of Commonwealth Avenue southbound will be open to traffic the whole day. However, four lanes of Commonwealth Avenue's southbound part from the Shopwise U-turn slot until the San Simon U-turn slot will be for northbound vehicles. Purisima also said the concrete barriers at Convergy’s U-turn slot will be removed at 12:01 a.m. Monday, so VIPs going to the Sandiganbayan Building can pass through. Alternate routes Commonwealth northbound: All northbound PUBs, PUJs and other motorists shall turn left at Shopwise U-turn Slot and take southbound counterflow until they reach San Simon U-turn Slot. Turn left and take the northbound for normal counterflow. Alternate Route #1: From EDSA take Congressional Ave. then turn left to Mindanao Avenue. Take right to Old Sauyo Road then left turn to Chestnut. Take right turn to Dhalia then take left turn at Regalado. From Regalado take a left turn going to Commonwealth Avenue. Alternate Route #2: From Quezon City Circle via North Avenue turn right to Mindanao Avenue. Take right to Old Sauyo Road then left turn to Chestnut. Take right turn to Dhalia then take left turn at Regalado. From Regalado take a left turn going to Commonwealth Avenue. Alternate Route #3: From Quezon Memorial Circle via Visayas Avenue turn left at Tandang Sora Avenue then turn right going to Mindanao Avenue. Take right to Old Sauyo Road then left turn to Chestnut. Take right turn to Dhalia then take left turn at Regalado. From Regalado take a left turn going to Commonwealth Avenue. Commonwealth southbound: All eight lanes of southbound are passable for all types of vehicles. From San Simon U-turn slot, 8 lanes of southbound will be divided in to two parts to give way for northbound vehicles until it reaches Metro Disco U-turn Slot where normal traffic flow will resume. Alternate Route: From Commonwealth Avenue take right at Regalado then turn right at Dahlia. Turn left at Chestnut then turn right to Old Sauyo Road and turn left going to Mindanao Avenue.

View SONA traffic rerouting scheme - Commonwealth Avenue in a larger map Tow trucks near Sandiganbayan Quezon City Police District head Chief Superintendent George Regis said 10 Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) tow trucks and two more from the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) will be deployed near the Sandiganbayan. Traffic aides will be deployed and appropriate signages will be installed to guide the motoring public of the alternate routes. Regis said pro-administration rallyists are to hold their activities along Commonwealth Avenue in front of the Commision On Audit (COA) Building. Anti-administration rallyists are allowed at the Quezon Memorial Circle as per an approved rally permit. On alert This developed as Philippine National Police chief Director General Raul Bacalzo had key PNP units prepare to go on full alert, and others on heightened alert. A news release on the PNP website said units placed on full alert included:
