'Juaning' threatens Aurora, Isabela; 23 areas under Signal 1

Tropical Depression Juaning slowed down early Tuesday and may make landfall over the Isabela-Aurora area in northern Luzon, even as at least 23 areas were placed under Storm Signal No. 1. Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration forecaster Gener Quitlong said Juaning is likely to leave Philippine territory early Thursday. "(Ito ay may) babala sa Isabela-Aurora area (at) inaasahan ito magla-landfall sa Isabela-Aurora area bukas madaling araw (It threatens the Isabela-Aurora area and may make landfall there before dawn Wednesday)," Quitlong said in an interview on dzBB radio. He said their models show Juaning may leave Philippine territory early Thursday, based on its present speed and direction. But he said Juaning is presently affecting parts of Central and Southern Luzon including Metro Manila, while the monsoon brings rain over Palawan and the Bicol Region. 23 areas under Signal 1 As of 4 a.m., PAGASA said Juaning was estimated at 130 km northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, packing maximum winds of 55 kph near the center.
