DepEd suspends afternoon classes in NCR due to rain


Citing the probability of heavy rain in the afternoon, the Department of Education (DepEd) ordered the suspension of afternoon classes on Tuesday in the kinder, elementary, and high school levels in Metro Manila, in both public and private schools. A report on radio dzBB said the Commission on Higher Education is leaving it to college and university heads to suspend classes for the day. DepEd Metro Manila head Elena Ruiz said the decision after DepEd coordinated with the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). "(Sabi ng) PAGASA magkakaroon ng heavy rains starting 12 this afternoon; lahat na classes sa lahat ng levels, kinder, elementary, at high school sa Metro Manila, private at public ay ating isinuspindi," she said in an interview on dzBB radio. She said the DepEd leaves it up to principals and school heads to cut short morning classes, which last up to noon or 12:30 p.m. However, she also urged parents to fetch their children from morning classes immediately, especially if the rains become heavier. Earlier, the DepEd suspended classes in parts of Bicol and Southern Luzon due to heavy rains and strong winds.
