Malacañang on Monday announced that August 30, Tuesday, will be a regular holiday in observance of Eid'l Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. In Proclamation No. 234, President Benigno Simeon Aquino III declared August 30 as a holiday "to promote cultural understanding and integration, the entire Filipino nation should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr." The proclamation, signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr., noted that Muslims mark Eid’l Fitr at the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting considered one of the greatest religious observances in Islam .
