PAGASA: Nights to start getting longer

Nights will now start getting longer after the autumnal equinox Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said. While PAGASA forecaster Jun Galang noted that day is still longer than night for Friday, the transition to longer nights has started. "Medyo nag-uumpisa na po (The transition is starting)," he said in an interview on dzBB radio, when asked when night will become longer than day. PAGASA's forecast for Friday had indicated the sun rose at 5:45 a.m., and will set at 5:52 p.m. Earlier, PAGASA's astronomical diary for September indicated Philippine nights will become longer, while day and night will have equal length on the equinox. Night and day are nearly of the same length and Sun crosses the celestial equator during the autumnal equinox. "Philippine nights will be longer as the Sun approaches the celestial equator.
