PAGASA: Expect whiff of cold weather Sunday

Filipinos may finally get a whiff of the cold air associated with the Christmas season as early as this Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Friday. In a post on its Twitter account, PAGASA said the amihan (northeast monsoon), which brings the cold air to the country, is still weak. "The cold air mass is not affecting us yet [as] the northeast monsoon is still weak this time. Ths Sunday there will be an intrusion of cool air," it said. PAGASA's tweet was in response to netizens asking why the weather is still "not very cold" even in the early mornings at this time. Earlier, it said the hot weather especially in most of Luzon is due to a ridge of a maritime high pressure area characterized by a warm and humid air mass. "This type of weather configuration is attributed to La Niña. A weak intrusion of cooler air mass is expected around Saturday or Sunday," PAGASA added. Despite this, PAGASA's extended forecast until November 15 indicated the temperature range in Metro Manila will still be warm at 24 to 32 degrees Celsius. The extended forecast also indicated partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers in Metro Manila until Nov. 15. — LBG, GMA News
