AFP: PNoy approves promotion of five generals


President Benigno Aquino III has approved the promotion of five generals holding key posts in the Armed Forces of the Philippines. The AFP said Aquino as commander-in-chief approved the promotion of the five, whose positions are in engineering, operations, logistics, communications and civil relations. “I encourage our newly promoted generals to look at the stars on their shoulders as a fitting reminder of the greater expectations and responsibilities that come with them. You will be looked up to in the performance of your duties, so always do your best and always put the interests of the people and the organization as the top priorities," AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Eduardo Oban Jr. said. Those who got promoted are:

  • Brig. Gen. Eduardo del Rosario, to the rank of Major General. He heads the AFP Civil Relations Service. His previous assignment was Army Internal Auditor and Commander of the Army’s 1003rd Brigade, 10th Infantry Division. He was a member of the “Mapitagan" Class of 1980 in the Philippine Military Academy.
  • Commodore Edgardo Tamayo, promoted to Rear Admiral. He is the current AFP Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics (J4). He commanded several Navy vessels including the Flagship BRP Rajah Humabon and BRP Artemio Ricarte. He was an Outstanding Graduate of the Naval Command and Staff Course in 1992. Like Del Rosario, he is also a member of the PMA “Mapitagan" Class of 1980.
  • Captains Alexander Lopez and Crispin Mercado, who were promoted to Commodore.
      Lopez is currently the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff for Operations. He also served as Philippine Embassy Defense Armed Forces Attache in Singapore; Acting Deputy Commander of Headquarters Naval Intelligence and Security Force; and Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence of the Philippine Navy. Mercado is a military engineer who held important positions in the Philippine Navy. He served as Command Engineer of the Western Command, the Chief Engineer of the Philippine Navy, Deputy Chief Engineer of the AFP, and Chief of Staff of the AFP National Development Support Command (NADESCOM). He is the current The Deputy Inspector General, AFP.
  • Col. Leopoldo Santos Jr., promoted to Brigadier General. He is the current Commander of Communications, Electronics and Information Systems Service, AFP. He was also the former Assistant Chief of Staff for Communications, Electronics and Information Systems Service (G6) of the Philippine Army and also served as Command Inspector General of the PA Training and Doctrines Command (TRADOC).
