DepEd rushing to release teachers' Christmas bonuses by Dec. 25

The Department of Education reassured public school teachers it is working to make sure all of them get their P10,000 Christmas bonuses by Christmas Day, Dec. 25.

DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro said the release of bonuses has been completed in three regions, and is ongoing in the rest of the country.

“As soon as we got approval from the Department of Budget and Management, our disbursing officers have started the processing of fund release. We had our implementing units prepare the required documents so when the funds are available, we can fast track payment to our teachers and personnel,” said Luistro.

He said the DepEd hopes to complete the release of the Christmas bonus to all teachers before Christmas day if no major hitch comes up.

The P10,000 Christmas bonus is also known as the Productivity Enhancement Incentive (PEI).

As of December 15, the DepEd said all teachers in Regions 1, 2 and 7 have received their bonuses.

Bicol (Region 5) has paid 95 percent of its teachers while 90 percent of teachers in Metro Manila have already received their bonuses, it added.

The DepEd said teachers in Bicol and Metro Manila may expect to get their complete payment by Friday.

On the other hand, the release of Christmas bonuses is ongoing in Regions 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, Caraga and the Cordillera Administrative Region, the DepEd said in its Twitter comment.

It added funds are being processed for teachers in Regions 4A, 4B, 8, 11 and 12.

DepEd said its office in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao is independently monitoring the progress of their payments.

“We are doing a round-the-clock monitoring in DepEd offices nationwide so that we can respond promptly in case there are delays in some areas,” Luistro said. — ELR, GMA News
