NDRRMC: 'Sendong' death toll goes up again; 9 more confirmed dead


The death toll from tropical storm "Sendong" (Washi) rose further on Thursday, going up to 1,268, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said. In its 8 a.m. Thursday update, the NDRRMC indicated the death toll was nine more than the 1,259 reported as of Wednesday morning. At least 6,071 were reported injured while 181 were still missing, the NDRRMC added in its update. The NDRRMC said the most recent fatalities were identified as:

- Dexter Dalay, 32, Isla de Oro, Cagayan de Oro (drowning) - Mila delos Reyes, 41, Isla de Oro, Cagayan de Oro (drowning) - Celisa Gumapac, Lanice, Claveria (drowning) - Daisy Mae Bastigue Manondo, 21, Bugo, CDO (drowning) - Michael Montegrande Jr., 10 months, Isla de Oro (drowning) - Marrah Ardiente, 8, Hinaplanon (drowning) - Gundelina Batabat, 61, Bayug (drowning) - Edilberta Canoy, 69, Bayug (drowning) - Sason Capalac - Collen Garma, 13, Hinaplanon (drowning) - Jhen Love Gonzales, 21 - Analy Kim, 31 - Orlando Leonar, 66 - Vicente Mangubat, 72 - Razel Marababom - Erica Marceria, 1 - Nikki Vallanca - Hedeliza Wade, 42
However, the figures on the death toll may still be subject to further verification, as the NDRRMC listed Manondo's name twice in its list as of Thursday morning. The NDRRMC said Sendong has affected 125,256 families or 1,168,726 people in 851 villages in 59 towns and eight cities in 13 provinces. Of these, 6,574 families or 30,985 people are still in 55 evacuation centers. Estimated damage to property remained at P1,706,316,987, including P1,433,369,147 in infrastructure and P272,974,840 in agriculture. — LBG, GMA News
