Mayor of Dingle town in Iloilo dies of broncho


A town mayor of Dingle town in Iloilo died Tuesday after being hospitalized following a hectic schedule last weekend, Sun-Star Iloilo (sunstar.com.ph) reported Thursday. Mayor Robin Solinap, 63, died of myocardial infraction Tuesday morning at the Iloilo Doctors Hospital (IDH) with his close relatives and supporters around. The report said Solinap was busy attending various social obligations scheduled last Saturday, including an alumni homecoming at Matias Central Elementary School and a gift-fiving party in Ilahas village in Dingle. In the afternoon, he met with with his constituents at the Dingle Public Market and started complaining of dizziness and fatigue upon arrival home. He was rushed to the Iloilo Doctors Hospital at 8 p.m. Saturday when he complained of shortness of breath. Physicians initially diagnosed Solinap as suffering from bronchopneumonia, "an inflammation of the lungs caused by an infection." The mayor was given a 48-hour chance to survive his critical condition but eventually succumbed to massive heart failure. Dingle is a fourth-class town in Iloilo with a population of 38,311 people in 7,529 households. Shortly before his death, Solinap had been complaining of chest pain a week earlier but failed to seek medical attention. Governor Niel Tupas Sr. said that when he last visited him last weekend, Solinap gripped his hand. Solinap was a member of Lakas Party, and was already in his third and last term. He is said to be favored in the 2007 elections where he is reportedly running for reelection. His vice-mayor Rublen Luntao Lacson, 57, married with three children, failed to control her emotions when interviewed by the press Tuesday, at the New Iloilo Provincial Capitol. Before his death, Solinap even attended the Pagdayaw 2006 Awards Ceremony last Dec. 20. Vice Mayor Lacson took her oath of office as the new mayor of Dingle administered by Gov. Tupas. Lacson, of the Ugyon-Liberal Party, is married to Perseus Lacson, a chief engineer of Starlight Ferry Company owned and managed by Alfonso Cusi, General Manager of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). "He (Solinap) is a good manager and left a legacy worth keeping for his own town and his constituents. We are closed to each other. Though we belonged to different rival parties, yet we had respect for each other ... I will finish his project together with the cooperation of all the Sangguniang Bayan members," she said.
