PAGASA website experiencing problems, may be inaccessible

The website of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration was occasionally inaccessible to visitors Wednesday, even as the state weather agency said it is working on the problem. In a post on its Twitter account, PAGASA said action is being taken to resolve the issue, but it did not disclose the cause.

PAGASA tweeted that visitors may have problems accessing its website, but did not cite the cause of the problem. The incident came weeks after an exchange of hack attacks between the Philippines and China over a standoff at Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal. GMA News
"You may experience difficulty accessing the PAGASA website. Rest assured action is being taken to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you!" it said. Visitors to PAGASA's website (www.pagasa.dost.gov.ph) were greeted Wednesday with an error message indicating a "Database Error." However, PAGASA's older website (kidlat.pagasa.dost.gov.ph) was still accessible as of 9:40 a.m., although not all of its sections are updated. It was not immediately clear if PAGASA's website was hacked. PAGASA's was the latest government website to be downed since an exchange of hack attacks occurred last month over the standoff between the Philippines and China at Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal. Last month, pro-China hackers defaced the University of the Philippines website and uploaded a message claiming the disputed area belongs to China. Pro-Philippine hackers struck back, hitting Chinese government sites with counter-claims about the shoal. The exchange prompted the Philippine Department of Science and Technology to call to a stop to such acts, saying the Philippine government does not condone such acts. Last week, the Department of Budget and Management said its website came under attack, but the website has since been restored and was accessible this week. — LBG, GMA News
