NDRRMC: Death toll from 'Gener,' monsoon up to 53; 88 roads affected


The death toll from Typhoon Gener (Sala) rose further to 53 Tuesday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
 
In its 5 a.m. Tuesday update, the NDRRMC also said 35 people were injured and five remained missing, while 144 people - most of them fishermen - were rescued.
 
Among the most recent fatalities were:
 
  • Renz Reyes, 14, Brgy. Kalaklan, Olongapo City (drowned); and
  • Deo Socajil, 17, Brgy. Gui-ob, Alcantara, Romblon (drowned)
 
The NDRRMC said Gener and the monsoon had affected 211,185 families or 949,051 people in 1,266 villages in 152 towns and 28 cities in 35 provinces.
 
Of these, 4,323 families or 19,972 people are being served inside 91 evacuation centers.
 
Damage
 
Damage was estimated at P411,861,972.20, including P124,475,384 in infrastructure and P286,854,588.20 in agriculture.
 
At least 1,246 houses were destroyed while 6,609 were damaged.
 
Roads, bridges
 
At least 88 roads were affected while three bridges were not passable in the wake of Gener and the monsoon.
 
The most recently closed roads and bridges included:
 
Pampanga:
  • Minalin, Brgy. Road Brgy. Maniango: not passable to all types of vehicles;
  • Macabebe, Tacasan-Saplad David Road: not passable to all types of vehicles;
  • Macabebe, Brgy. San Gabriel: not passable to light vehicles;
  • Guagua, San Nicolas 1st (Balagtas St.): unelevated portion is not passable to light vehicles;
  • Guagua, Sto. Cristo (Interior road towards St. Michael College, Sto. Cristo Brgy. Hall) and MacArthur Highway: Unelevated portion is not passable to light vehicles
 
Cavite:
  • Tagaytay-Taal Lake Road closed due to major landslides and fallen trees
 
In Metro Manila, several streets were not passable to light vehicles in Manila, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Caloocan, Muntinlupa, Malabon, Valenzuela, and Quezon Cities. — RSJ, GMA News
