Monsoon enhanced by 'Haikui' to continue bringing heavy rain to NCR, 12 other areas

The monsoon enhanced by tropical storm "Haikui" will continue to bring heavy rain to Metro Manila and 12 other areas in Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Tuesday.

In its 11 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said "Haikui" was estimated at 300 km northeast of Taiwan but is still enhancing the southwest monsoon.

"(G)radual improvement of weather condition (is expected) by Thursday and onwards to the weekend," it said.

In the meantime, it said landslides and flash floods in mountainous areas and floods in low-lying areas may be expected.

PAGASA said "occasional to frequent rain" may fall over Luzon but may become "moderate to heavy" in the following areas:

  • Metro Manila
  • Ilocos
  • La Union
  • Pangasinan
  • Tarlac
  • Zambales
  • Bataan
  • Pampanga
  • Bulacan
  • Rizal
  • Cavite
  • Laguna
  • Batangas

Heavy rain from the enhanced monsoon had flooded several parts of Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

This prompted the suspension of classes and work in public—and eventually private—offices for Tuesday. –KG, GMA News
