Walang pasok: List of areas with class suspensions on Wednesday, Aug 8

(Updated 12:39 a.m., 8 August 2012) Torrential monsoon rains that have inundated much of Metro Manila and surrounding areas Tuesday have prompted local government units to cancel classes for yet another day.

According to the Department of Education, the following LGUs have announced suspension of classes at all levels in public and private schools on Wednesday, August 8.

NCR:

Navotas

Marikina

Caloocan

Parañaque

Las Piñas

Mandaluyong

Muntinlupa

Taguig

Valenzuela

San Juan

Manila

Makati

Quezon City

Pasay

Pasig

Malabon Pateros

Region 3:

Pampanga

Bulacan Zambales Bataan Pangasinan Olongapo City (Zambales) San Jose del Monte (Bulacan) Paombong (Bulacan)

Region 4A:

Laguna (province wide)

Cavite (province wide)

Batangas (province wide) Rodriguez, Rizal

Classes in Tarlac were suspended at the pre-school to high school levels only in public and private schools. Schools: Our Lady of Fatima University - all campuses, all levels.

"Not true" Meanwhile, the Department of Education belied supposed "news updates" claiming it and the Commission on Higher Education had suspended classes up to Friday, August 10, due to the floods from the monsoon rains.

"For those who are asking, this is NOT TRUE - NEWS UPDATE: DepED & CHED declared NO CLASSES Aug. 7 - 10, 2012 Tuesday-Friday," it said on its official Twitter account Tuesday night.

The DepEd supervises classes from the preschool to the high school level, while the CHED supervises classes in the college level.

Both agencies follow a new Malacañang guideline that if there is no automatic suspension of classes in bad weather, it is up to the local government unit involved to determine if classes in its area should be suspended.

In past weeks, classes in several schools had been suspended due to bad weather conditions.

However, in most cases, it was either the local government official involved or the school itself that announced suspension of classes. — DVM/YA/HS/BM/ELR, GMA News
