Palace names Ochoa as temporary DILG chief

Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. has been named officer-in-charge of the Department of Interior and Local Government following the death of Secretary Jesse Robredo from a plane crash in Masbate over the weekend. Robredo's body was recovered early Tuesday about 800 meters from the shore of Masbate.

Communications Secretary Ricky Carandang confirmed the development in a text message to GMA News Online on Tuesday.

Robredo’s death was announced in a briefing earlier in the day, three days after the plane he was in with three others crashed off Masbate.

Ochoa issued Memorandum Circular No. 36 in the afternoon, creating an inter-agency committee tasked to handle the state funeral and interment of Robredo. — Gian Geronimo/RSJ, GMA News
