Police: 37 people hurt in Davao City grenade blast

A total of 37 people were injured when a hand grenade went off inside a covered court in Barangay Fatima, Davao City, Saturday night, while a circus was being held, a police official said Sunday. In a text message to reporters, Davao City Director Senior Supt. Ronald Dela Rosa said an unidentified person lobbed a hand grenade at an army detachment adjacent to the covered court but it ricocheted upon hitting the net barrier and exploded at the audience of the circus. The victims were immediately brought to Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for medical treatment. Authorities are now conducting an investigation to determine the identity of the suspect and the motive behind the incident, Dela Rosa said. As of posting time, Dela Rosa said officials are still determining the identities of the victims being treated at SPMC. — with Mandy Fernandez /LBG, GMA News
