Cops rescue 29 sex workers, arrest 9 in QC, Bataan


At least 29 sex workers were rescued in separate operations of the Philippine National Police's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Quezon City and Bataan this week.
 
CIDG chief Director Samuel Pagdilao Jr. said the raids conducted Wednesday night were part of its campaign against human trafficking.
 
In Quezon City, CIDG Women and Children Protection Division (WCPD) operatives raided the Area Forbs Health and Wellness Center along Quezon Avenue in Quezon City at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.
 
Led by Superintendent Emma Libunao and the Department of Justice’s Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (DOJ-IACAT), the operatives rescued 10 female sex workers and arrested six persons.
 
Those arrested included the club supervisor, talent manager and the cashier, the CIDG said.
 
In Orion, Bataan, meanwhile, provincial CIDG operatives have raided the Michael J Bistro in Barangay Sto. Domingo around 10:30 p.m.
 
Operatives arrested three floor managers and rescued 19 sex workers in the Bataan raid.
 
Pagdilao said the suspects will be charged with violation of the RA 9208, or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003.
 
He also warned club operators in other suspected prostitution fronts the CIDG and the IACAT will not rest until their establishments were raided and their owners and operators charged, an article in the PNP-CIDG website said. –KG, GMA News
