NDRRMC: One missing, 4,505 stranded due to Typhoon Lawin


At least one person was reported missing while more than 4,500 were stranded due to bad weather conditions brought by Typhoon Lawin (international name: Jelawat), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Monday.
 
On its 6:00 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said search operations are still ongoing for the missing person from Barangay San Vicente in Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte.
 
The NDRRMC did not name the missing person.  
Flooding occurred in six areas in Zamboanga Peninsula even as three houses were damaged after four acacia trees were uprooted in Barangay Pasonanca in Zamboanga City.
 
Three families affected by the uprooting incident were evacuated to the local village hall, while officials in Upper Tungawan in Zamboanga del Norte have set up an evacuation center for 40 affected families.
 
The NDRRMC also said there have been power outages in Sirawai and Siocon in Zamboanga del Norte province since Saturday.
 
4,505 stranded
 
The NDRRMC said at least 4,505 people are stranded in Bicol, Central Visayas and Eastern Visayas.
 
Also stranded are 190 rolling cargoes, 179 buses and trucks, 64 cars, and five vessels.
 
Of these, 2,023 stranded passengers are in Matnog (Sorsogon), 120 in Tagbilaran (Bohol), 1,792 in Balwarteco in Allen (Northern Samar), and 570 in Dapdap (Allen, Northern Samar). - VVP, GMA News
