Pablo intensifies again, but moving slowly away from PAR

After weakening into a tropical storm, Tropical Cyclone Pablo (Bopha) intensified again into a typhoon Thursday afternoon, state weather forecasters said. PAGASA senior forecaster Robert Sawi said Typhoon Pablo is moving very slowly as it is sandwiched between two weather systems. "May kabagalan pa ito (It is moving very slowly)," Sawi said in a press briefing, parts of which were aired on dzBB radio. But he said that even if Typhoon Pablo should remain in the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) beyond Friday, it may weaken and dissipate due to cold winds by Saturday. As of 4 p.m. Thursday, PAGASA said Typhoon Pablo was estimated at 400 km west of Coron, Palawan, with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph and gustiness of up to 150 kph. It said Typhoon Pablo is forecast to move west-northwest at 7 kph. On the other hand, PAGASA said the cold front is affecting Northern Luzon while the inter-tropical Convergence Zone is affecting Southern Mindanao. "Palawan and the regions of CARAGA, Davao and Northern Mindanao will be cloudy with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms. The regions of Ilocos, Cordillera and Cagayan Valley will have light rain," it said. Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy with brief rain showers while the rest of the country will have brief rain showers or thunderstorms. Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast to east will prevail over Northern and Central Luzon and coming from the east over the rest of Luzon and Eastern Visayas. The coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, light to moderate winds coming from the East to Southeast with slight to moderate seas. — TJD, GMA News
