NDRRMC: 'Bising' floods affect 16k people, 229 still stranded

Floods brought by Tropical Depression Bising have affected nearly 17,000 people in parts of Mindanao, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Sunday. In its 6:30 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said the floods from Bising affected 5,454 families or 16,801 people in 66 villages in two cities and seven towns in seven provinces. These areas were located in Regions 11, 12 and Caraga, the NDRRMC added. Of those affected, it said 2,756 families or 7,880 people are being served inside 25 evacuation centers. Also, the NDRRMC said at least 229 passengers, 30 rolling cargoes, and six vessels remained stranded in Bicol as of 6 p.m. Saturday. The NDRRMC also said the Magmam-an Bridge in Barangay San Jose in Bislig in Surigao del Sur remained impassable due to heavy rain. Earlier Sunday, PAGASA forecaster Gener Quitlong said Bising was heading north and may dissipate before leaving the Philippine area of responsibility. — LBG, GMA News
