Comelec starts posting photos of campaign violations

As the campaign period for candidates running for national posts kicked off on Tuesday, so did the Commission on Elections' shame campaign against improper campaigning.

Comelec spokesman James Arthur Jimenez started posting online some photos of posters and campaign materials placed outside common poster areas.

"Sa kahabaan ng España, makakakita ka ng ganito ngayon," Jimenez said on his Twitter account.

Posted along with the tweet was a photo of a youth party list's posters plastered along España Boulevard in Manila.

Jimenez also chided an administration senatorial candidate whose poster was tacked to a post, and not in a common poster area.

"Nasa maling lugar yang poster mo, sir," he said.

Jimenez reiterated his appeal to the public to report violations of campaign rules, "even when the violator is a candidate you like!"

He used the hashtags #votervigilance and #SumbongMo.

Also, he reiterated such violations will be a basis for disqualification.

"(The candidates concerned), however, will have to be given official notice of this violation, and the opportunity to address (the) problem," he said.

Comelec chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. on Monday warned candidates to take down their illegal posters and campaign paraphernalias or they will be charged with an election offense. —KG, GMA News
