UNA: Supporters in Cebu, Bohol prevented from witnessing rally, motorcade

The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) on Wednesday claimed that some of their supporters from Cebu were prevented from witnessing the coalition’s proclamation rally and motorcade. Vice President Jejomar Binay, an UNA stalwart, said two buses filled with their supporters were supposedly halted by personnel from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) while they were en route to the coalition’s proclamation rally in Cebu City on Tuesday afternoon. Binay said supporters were blocked because they were supposedly using vehicles owned by the Cebu City government. “Ang balita naming, ‘yung mga sasakyan na ginamit para sa pagpunta doon sa aming rally hinaharang-harang. 365 days ang binigay sa inyo para ma-check ninyo kung talagang may violations. Bakit naman tinama niyo doon sa araw na pupunta sa rally,” Binay told reporters at a sortie in Bohol. GMA News Online was still trying to verify Binay’s statements with Cebu LTO officials as of posting time. Liezl Go, UNA mayoralty candidate in Loon town in Bohol, meanwhile claimed that barangay officials in her area timed the distribution of rice bags and PhilHealth cards to prevent residents from witnessing the coalition’s motorcade on Wednesday morning. “Nakakapagtaka kasi wala naman talagang schedule ‘yun. Mukhang isinabay sa schedule ng motorcade,” Go said in a separate interview. Binay, for his part, called on local officials and authorities to not let their political leanings affect the performance of their duties. “Ipakita natin ang nangyayaring daang matuwid. 'Yung mga kabulastugang ganyan, tapos na 'yan. Hindi na kasama 'yan. Let us have a clean and honest election,” he said. He added that he will ask the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to check if election laws were violated by LTO and barangay officials involved in the incidents in Cebu and Bohol. — DVM, GMA News
