PNoy's approval, trust ratings increase slightly -- Pulse Asia

President Benigno Aquino III's approval and trust ratings, though still high, have barely moved from the previous rating, according to the most recent survey of pollster Pulse Asia.

In the survey conducted from Feb. 24 to 28, Aquino's overall approval rating increased by two percentage points from 66 percent in Pulse Asia's January 2013 survey to 68 percent in the latest poll.

Out of 1,800 respondents, six percent disapproved of Aquino's work, while 24 were ambivalent about it.

On the other hand, the President's trust rating went up by a point from 68 percent in the January 2013 survey to 69 percent in the latest one.

Around seven percent said they distrusted Aquino, while 24 percent were undecided.

Meanwhile, Vice President Jejomar Binay also registered high approval and trust ratings in the Pulse Asia survey. He obtained a 70 percent approval rating, and a trust rating of 72 percent.

"Only President Benigno S. Aquino III and Vice-President Jejomar C. Binay enjoy majority approval and trust ratings in February 2013," Pulse Asia said.

The pollster noted, though, that there are no significant changes in the national ratings of Aquino or the other top government officials in its latest survey compared to the previous one in January.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno, meanwhile, does not still seem to get the approval and trust of the Filipino people, based on the survey.

"With regard to disapproval, Filipinos are most critical of the work done by Senate President (Juan Ponce) Enrile (16 percent), Supreme Court Chief Justice Sereno

(17 percent) and House Speaker (Feliciano) Belmonte (20 percent),” Pulse Asia said.

“[W]hile in terms of distrust, the highest figures are posted by Supreme Court Chief Justice Sereno (24 percent) and House Speaker Belmonte (25 percent),” the pollster also said.

However, despite Sereno’s trust and approval ratings, data from the survey show that  the Supreme Court was the only government institution that obtained a majority trust rating.

"A small majority of Filipinos (52 percent) trusts the Supreme Court while a near majority says the same thing of the Senate (49 percent)," the poll said.

"In contrast, the House of Representatives registers almost the same trust and indecision ratings (44 percent versus 43 percent)," the survey also said. - VVP, GMA News
