Report: Food poisoning downs 158 delegates to Palarong Pambansa

At least 158 athletes representing Eastern Visayas in the Palarong Pambansa were downed by diarrhea, with seven of them being hospitalized, government-run Philippines News Agency reported Saturday. The PNA quoted Negros Oriental information officer Adrian Sedillo as saying Governor Roel Degamo has ordered an investigation into the incident. Seven of the affected athletes were admitted at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital.  Other members of the delegation are billeted at the Colegio de Sta. Catalina de Alejandria (COSCA) in Dumaguete City. The Games will open Sunday with a grand parade even as some 12,000 athletes will participate in various events. Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. is expected to attend the opening program, the PNA said. Palarong Pambansa will run from April 21 to 27. — LBG, GMA News
