DepEd to boost equitable teacher deployment

As it continues preparations for the coming school year, the Department of Education released guidelines to ensure the “equitable deployment” of teachers nationwide. The DepEd said its Memorandum No. 22 sets rules allowing the reassignment of teachers to other schools that have a shortage of them. “We need to be able to transfer teachers from one station to another to address the problem of overcrowding,” said DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro. Such guidelines seek to address both teacher shortage and overcrowding in various parts of the country. The DepEd’s Basic Education Information System noted imbalances in the distribution of teachers, citing many schools still had one teacher for more than 40 students. “Overcrowding isn’t just because of lack of teachers overall. In certain areas there are more than enough personnel but they are concentrated in a few schools,” Luistro said. — LBG, GMA News
