PAGASA: Rainy season may start early June

Despite the rain over parts of the country in recent days, the transition to the rainy season is not due until about the first week of June, state weather forecasters said Monday.

PAGASA forecaster Samuel Duran said they expect the southwest monsoon (habagat) to arrive between the last week of May and early June.

"Ine-expect natin sa first week June maaring magkaroon ng habagat (We expect the southwest monsoon to arrive in the first week of June)," Duran said in an interview on dzBB radio.

But in the meantime, he said Metro Manila may continue to expect isolated rain showers and thunderstorms especially in the afternoon or evening.

Residents in Metro Manila had been sweltering from the summer heat since April, where temperatures went up to 36.6 degrees Celsius.

The hottest temperature recorded so far this year was in Isabela, at 39.6 degrees Celsius.

However, rain had been falling on parts of Metro Manila in recent weeks. — TJD, GMA News
