Palace pushes disaster preparedness plans at family level

As the rainy season remains likely to cause floods in parts of the country, Malacañang on Saturday appealed to families to draw up their own disaster preparedness plans to minimize the chances of becoming casualties.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council is conducting information drives on disaster preparedness at the family level.

“We appeal to (families) to review your families’ disaster preparedness plan. Kumpleto ba ang emergency kits sa bahay para hindi tayo nagugulat at handa tayo sa sakuna?" she said on government-run dzRB radio.

In past weeks, heavy rain had fallen on parts of the country, flooding parts of Mindanao. Heavy rain also caused floods in parts of Metro Manila.

Several families were also trapped in their homes in Palawan amid floods brought by heavy rain.

Valte said it is important for families to have the right information in preparing their disaster plans.

“Ang information ang pinakaimportante para makahanda (Information is the most important thing to prepare). Going into rainy season, this will be very important,” she said. — LBG, GMA News
