PAGASA: Weather disturbances approach; Luzon to be cloudy

State weather forecasters are tracking two weather systems outside the Philippine area of responsibility, one of which it said may intensify into a cyclone and enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) this weekend. PAGASA forecaster Glaiza Escollar said in an interview on dzBB radio that one system was a low-pressure area west of extreme northern Luzon. But it had very little chance of entering the PAR. On the other hand, she said a second weather system - a cloud cluster that may become a low-pressure area - was approaching the PAR. For now, she said the cloud cluster was in the Pacific Ocean but had a good chance of intensifying. "Sa ngayon malaki ang posibilidad na maging LPA at maaring pumasok sa PAR," she said. If it becomes a cyclone, it will be codenamed Jolina. She added the weather system may enter the PAR in "one to two days." Thursday outlook For Thursday, PAGASA said the inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ) was across northern and Central Luzon and may bring rain. "The regions of Bicol, Central Luzon, Ilocos, Cordillera and Cagayan Valley and the province of Quezon will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms," it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin. PAGASA said Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be "partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms." Also, it said moderate to occasionally strong winds from the southwest to south will prevail over the western section of northern and Central Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to occasionally rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the southeast to south with slight to moderate seas. — DVM, GMA News
