Napoles allegedly has P500 million in AFP coop – report

The businesswoman in the center of the P10 billion ‘pork barrel’ controversy allegedly has P500 million in a non-stock savings and loan association under the Armed Forces of the Philippines, a television report on Tuesday revealed.

The family of Janet Lim-Napoles, owner of JLN Corporation, purportedly has about 10 to 15 dummy bank accounts in the Air Materiel Wing Support Savings and Loan Association, Inc., under the Philippine Air Force, a report aired on GMA Network's “24 Oras” said.



Napoles was implicated in the supposed P10 billion pork barrel scam that ran for about 10 years. Using the lawmakers’ Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), JLN Corp. allegedly distributed the money to bogus non-government organizations.

The saving accounts, which have been established about three to four years ago, were named under Napoles’ kin, friends or house help, the report added.

“Kung sundalo ka o dati kang sundalo at dependent ka ng sundalo na ‘yan ay maaari kang magbukas ng isang account,” Atty. Levito Baligod, the whistleblowers’ legal counsel, said. “May mga ipinangalan sa ibang tao na hindi naman dependents o hindi naman sundalo katulad ni G. Getrudes Luy at Benhur, hindi naman sundalo ang mga iyan.”

Merlina Suñas and Benhur Luy were the whistleblowers who exposed Napoles. Both of them used to be Napoles’ employees.

GMA News online was unable to contact Napoles nor her legal counsel Lorna Kapunan as of posting time.

Napoles’ camp had earlier said that it will file separate cases of perjury, libel, disbarment, and illegal arrest in Quezon City, Makati, and Taguig City against their accusers.

Earlier, the Justice Department issued a lookout bulletin order against Napoles in connection with the supposed pork barrel scam. — DVM, GMA News
